Robert Clay Vineyards - Media Kit
Robert Clay Vineyards is a family-owned Estate Winery that began its journey in 1996 when Paul and Nancy Buist planted the first vines. The vineyard's name honors their two sons, Robert and Clay. In 2012, Dan and Jeanie McLaughlin took over the reins of the vineyard with a desire to fulfill Dan's childhood dream of becoming a farmer and leaving a lasting legacy for their future generations.

Press coverage
Dan’s oldest wines are from 2015 and that includes Merlot, Sangiovese, and MTR (Merlot, Touriga Nacional, Ruby Cabernet). These wines are what he calls Grand Reserve meaning aged five years with a minimum of two years in barrel.
For me, these wines brought a quick remembrance of two previous Texas Chardonnays of notoriety.
Dan McLaughlin ignored conventional wisdom, and eventually won respect.

Their micro-production reds and whites… were eye-opening and barrier-breaking.
Damn it Dan, this wine is good!
Robert Clay captures the essence of the vineyard in a glass. The 2015 Merlot expresses ripe red fruit, but is not overly fruit forward. The fresh acidity, fleshy fruit notes and integrated oak pay homage to both new and old world wine styles. A walk through the vineyard will reveal a great attention to vine balance.

William Chris Vineyards
Close friends and longtime supporters
Located in Hye, Texas, Bill and Chris have been close friends and avid supporters of Robert Clay Vineyards since the very beginning. While they once purchased the majority of the Merlot we sold, we now use all of our own fruit, though we still trade fruit with them from time to time. They remain committed to a level of quality that represents the very best of Texas in each new vintage.
